So the quote-a-day wantaway that is Rafael van der Vaart just keeps on rolling this week.  All it takes is typing in his name on Google and the very first thing that comes up is the headline “Van Der Vaart: I Would Love To Play In Italy” which was posted, at the time of this entry, all of 12 hours ago.

Well, Raffy…I can say with some certainty that you are conducting yourself like a massive tool.

I’ll admit that if the Fire aren’t playing, it takes a hell of a lot for me to watch and MLS game, so forgive me for being late on the boat on this one.  It just got posted on The Offside, however, in honor of Rico’s USMNT call-up.

Apparently, that kick to Ruiz’s right shoulder had a hell of an effect on the, uh….opposite side of, uh…..his head.

Personally, I’d say that this kind of action should be REQUIRED for a USMNT call-up.

suck on it, birmingham…uh, i mean blackburn

I’ve been to Birmingham. It’s a nice enough town. I hold no grudges. But Birmingham City Blackburn…is one of those teams I’ve just always fucking detested, without any real rhyme or reason. So this video, featuring Dowie (cunt)-managed Coventry, is a joy for me. There’s actually some good action in here too – the final three Coventry goals were nice, and although the Blackburn goal was a total waste of time it was a fucking laser.

It also proves my theory that an away end after a goal is the most beautiful thing in sports.

So What’s Worse…Chavs or Eurosnobs?

Football is a different animal in England than it is in the States. The stadiums in America essentially suck the fattest of cocks (no roof? bowl design? A STAGE? give me Kenilworth Road any day), the quality of play in the MLS is possibly at a mid-table Fizzy Pop League standard, no promotion scheme…the usual complaints.

Like any sport, though, football in both England and America have one thing in common: some of the people who follow the sport are fucking annoying. Let’s discuss this further, shall we?

The MLS sponsor craze continues.

The 2007 season brought with it a plethora of changes to the league. The expansion of the league into the Great(ly overrated) White North with the addition of Toronto FC , the DP or Designated Player rule which brought with it Beckhamania (in case you couldn’t afford the $1000 per ticket on ebay and couldn’t attend a game, this is what it looked like), and the addition of jersey sponsors to bring additional revenue to the teams and give their kits a more “authentic feel as every other league in the world (give or take a few) adorn their shirts with sponsor logos as well.

Welcome to Your Club Is Rubbish. Wonderful title, isn’t it? Sounds like two “Yanks” trying to sound “authentic,” whatever the fuck that means.

Oddly enough, that’s exactly what this is. Huh. Weird. Moving right along…

My colleague Arriaga seemed to mention in his first post that we were going to post in “various stages of intoxication,” which sounded pretty good to me…so I’ve cracked open a beer, lit up a “fag” (there’s that being “authentic” again!), and gotten right down to work. The World Needs Another Soccer Blog

This is our inaugural post, so we suppose we should give our mission statement and a brief example of what you can expect to be reading from us from now on. Yet, we don’t give a good goddamn what we should or shouldn’t do. Therefore, we aren’t going to give you what you expect. Ever. And yet… we just have. Ay, there’s the rub! In not giving you what you expected, we have inadvertently given you the example of what you can expect, and yet because we aren’t going to give you what you expect we’re feeding back into it. It’s all a terribly confusing catch 22 that’s really not worth the effort to figure it out. So stop trying.
